“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:27-30

Immediately after claiming that no one can know God apart from knowing him, the Lord Jesus makes another surprising claim: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28) What is this rest for the weary and how can we experience it? The rest for the weary that Jesus offers here is the perfect revelation of who God is and what he requires of his people. You see, the religious teachers in Jesus' day had an idea in their minds of what God was like. They thought that he was an angry God, like an angry lawyer who was always looking for a reason to condemn someone. And so, they became themselves like angry lawyers and taught others to do the same. This wrong idea of who God is and how he wants us to live was like a “heavy, cumbersome load.” (Matt 23:4).

But the Lord Jesus invites us to see a different picture of who God is. By following Jesus' teachings we see that God is actually gentle, humble, kind and patient. That we can have perfect peace with this God by simply relying on what Jesus' has already accomplished for us (Romans 4:4-8). This picture of a God who is close, and gentle is a truth clearly seen during the Christmas season. As we celebrate the fact that the creator of the universe became a poor child. To live a among us as one of us and experience life as we do, so that he may save us. May God reveal himself to you this Christmas through his son.

Pójdźcie do mnie wszyscy, którzy jesteście spracowani i obciążeni, a Ja wam dam ukojenie. Weźcie na siebie moje jarzmo i uczcie się ode mnie, że jestem cichy i pokornego serca, a znajdziecie ukojenie dla dusz waszych. Albowiem jarzmo moje jest miłe, a brzemię moje lekkie”.

Ewangelia Mateusza 11:27-30

Zaraz po stwierdzeniu, że nikt nie może poznać Boga bez poznania Go, Pan Jezus wygłasza kolejne zaskakujące stwierdzenie: "Pójdźcie do mnie wszyscy, którzy jesteście spracowani i obciążeni, a Ja wam dam ukojenie." (Mt 11:28). Czym jest ten odpoczynek dla strudzonych i jak możemy go doświadczyć? Odpoczynek dla strudzonych, który Jezus tutaj proponuje, jest doskonałym objawieniem tego, kim jest Bóg i czego wymaga od swojego ludu. Widzicie, nauczyciele religijni w czasach Jezusa mieli w swoich umysłach wyobrażenie tego, jaki jest Bóg. Myśleli, że jest rozgniewanym Bogiem, jak rozgniewany prawnik, który zawsze szuka powodu, by kogoś potępić. I tak stali się jak wściekli prawnicy i nauczyli innych, by robili to samo. To błędne wyobrażenie o tym, kim jest Bóg i o tym jak chce, abyśmy żyli, było jak "ciężkie brzemiona". (Mt 23:4).

Ale Pan Jezus zaprasza nas, abyśmy zobaczyli inny obraz tego, kim jest Bóg. Postępując zgodnie z naukami Jezusa, widzimy, że Bóg jest w rzeczywistości cichy, pokornego serca, życzliwy i cierpliwy. Że możemy mieć doskonały pokój z takim Bogiem, po prostu polegając na tym, co Jezus już dla nas osiągnął (Rz 4: 4-8). Ten obraz Boga, który jest bliski i łagodny, jest prawdą wyraźnie widoczną w okresie Bożego Narodzenia. Świętujemy fakt, że Stwórca wszechświata stał się biednym dzieckiem. Żeby żyć pośród nas jako jeden z nas i doświadczać życia tak, jak my doświadczamy, aby móc nas zbawić. Niech Bóg objawi się Wam w te Święta w swoim Synu.
